Survey Reveals Rising Cynicism Among Harris Voters

The UnPopulist, an independent publication committed to protecting liberal democracy from authoritarianism both in the U.S. and worldwide, has published results from a recent survey by the Institute for the Study of Modern Authoritarianism (ISMA). This survey highlights a shift in attitudes among voters who supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

According to the survey, Harris supporters have become more skeptical of American elites over the past years. In ISMA’s previous survey conducted in August 2024, before the presidential election, 59% of intending Harris voters strongly believed that at least one of six identified American elites harmed people like them for their “own selfish interests.” By June this year, this figure increased to 69% among those who voted for Harris, marking a 10-point rise.

This shift in perception represents the only statistically significant change in the four populist attitudes tracked by the survey among Harris voters.
