Taylor Farms, headquartered in Salinas, California, is confronting a cyclosporiasis outbreak traced back to its iceberg lettuce. Over 1,600 individuals have fallen ill due to this outbreak. The produce was distributed to several Taco Bell locations, as confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In response, Taylor Farms decided to remove the implicated products. This decision was made following guidance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The company emphasized its commitment to proactive measures to ensure public safety.
The company has been a prominent player in the agricultural sector since its establishment in 1995 by Bruce Taylor. It operates out of Salinas Valley, famed as the ‘salad bowl of the world.’ Taylor Farms generates annual sales exceeding $7 billion, providing produce to grocery chains and restaurants across more than 12 states, Mexico, and Canada. The company operates 30 processing facilities and employs 25,000 people. It accounts for over 40 percent of salad kits sold in the United States and delivers 265 million servings of fresh vegetables weekly.
Despite its widespread presence, Taylor Farms keeps details of its client retailers and restaurants under wraps, a practice common among food manufacturers.
