Welcome to the Reconstruction Agenda. I’m Andy Craig. Since the Constitutional Convention, Americans have faced challenges with political parties. The framers of the Constitution held a distrust of these entities. Yet, they participated in and shaped the parties themselves. This ambivalence has persisted throughout U.S. history.

The combination of presidentialism with single-member districts can pose significant issues. This system often encourages leaders to consolidate power by exploiting societal divisions. By prioritizing political gain over unity, leaders can deepen these divides.

The UnPopulist is an independent publication aimed at safeguarding liberal democracy from authoritarian tendencies within the U.S. and globally. The focus is on exploring how these political structures impact governance and society.
