The Revival of High School Football Participation Post-Pandemic

Participation in tackle football at the high school level is rising again after a decade-long decline. The resurgence follows the pandemic and is attributed to changes in safety protocols, but fresh concerns have emerged from a recent study.

Coach John Hart has transformed his approach to high school football practices over the past 15 years. His sessions at Brownsburg High School, which recently defended its Indiana state championship title, now exclude tackling to the ground and seldom exceed 90 minutes in duration. Reflecting on these changes, Hart expressed a candid perspective, remarking that if he were to compare his current practices with those of 15 years ago, he might critique his own approach.

This adaptation reflects a broader trend within the sport, aiming to prioritize player safety while maintaining the spirit and competitiveness of football.
