Three Days in Isolation: Avoiding Threat to Mammals

In June, I found myself needing to isolate from all mammals for a period of three days. My refuge was a modest motel room reminiscent of a fugitive’s hideaway from the 1930s. Outside the room’s window lay a literal dumping ground.

Throughout my stay, I took precautions to limit my interactions. I slept at the foot of the bed, distant from the wall, to ensure separation in case someone else might be present on the other side. My primary concern was to avoid contact with vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant women and young children under the age of ten.
