Santa’s Trolley Express Tickets Available
The Fox River Trolley Museum in South Elgin has opened ticket sales for this year’s Santa’s Trolley Express. Rides will take place at Blackhawk Station, located in the Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve. The address is 35W003 Route 31. These rides will be available on select weekends between Friday, November 28, and Sunday, December 20.
Riders will enjoy a trip on a 1959 subway train, which will include holiday-themed activities. Activities offered will include storytelling, complimentary hot chocolate, singalongs, and a visit from Santa himself.
Tickets are $38 per person if purchased by July 31. They will increase to $45 from August 1 through October 31, and will cost $50 from November 1 onward. More details and ticket information can be found at foxtrolley.org.
U-46 Announces New Administrative Appointments
The School District U-46 has announced new administrative appointments for the upcoming academic year. Rafael Martinez-Ortiz is now the principal of Dream Academy in Elgin. He has served as the associate principal since 2023. Before this, he held various roles at Elgin High School, including assistant principal for freshman success and dean of students.
Luis De León has been appointed as principal of Streamwood High School. He brings over 20 years of educational experience. Before this role, he was an assistant superintendent for Oak Park Elementary School District 97, and has previously worked with U-46.
Angela DeMay has taken on the role of assistant director of specialized student services compliance. She has extensive experience in similar roles, and most recently served as director of student services for Skokie School District 73.5 since 2021.
New Certificate Programs at Elgin Community College
Elgin Community College is set to launch two new basic vocational certificate programs this fall. The programs include pipe welding and quality control technician certifications.
In the pipe welding certificate program, students will focus on techniques such as gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding. The quality control technician program will teach students to read engineering drawings and apply precision measurement techniques. It requires no prerequisites and can be completed in two semesters.
