Incumbent Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, a Republican, faces a tight competition against Democrat Scott Colom in the Mississippi Senate race.
The election is proving to be narrow with nearly all votes tallied. With 97 percent of the votes counted, the two candidates are virtually neck and neck.
Mississippi’s political landscape has historically leaned Republican. The state hasn’t elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1982. The Cook Political Report also rates this seat as likely to remain Republican.
Sen. Hyde-Smith has held her position in the Senate since 2018. She secured her seat by a margin of 10 percentage points during the 2020 election.
