Tony Romo, a CBS football analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee. Authorities suspect him of intoxicated driving.
Romo, aged 46, was stopped on southbound Interstate 43 at approximately 6:18 p.m. CDT. According to Milwaukee County Sheriff’s records, he did not perform well on standardized field sobriety tests.
He faced one charge for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Subsequently, Romo was released and given a court appearance date set for September 21. This corresponds with the Monday night of the NFL’s Week 2, when the Pittsburgh Steelers are scheduled to play against the New England Patriots, the recent AFC champions.
The arrest occurred not long after Romo completed an interview with NBC affiliate WTMJ, as reported by the Milwaukee TV station.
Romo had a 13-season career with the NFL, exclusively playing for the Dallas Cowboys. He later transitioned smoothly into sports broadcasting with CBS.
He now forms part of CBS’s leading NFL broadcast team, working with play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. Romo recently covered his third Super Bowl in 2024.
By Friday, it was not confirmed whether Romo had retained a defense attorney.
