A selection of standout high school baseball players from Naperville has recently been highlighted, showcasing impressive performances. Five athletes each from Class 4A state semifinalists Naperville Central and Naperville North, along with four players each from Benet and Waubonsie Valley, have earned recognition.
First Team Selections
- Andrew Barkley, Neuqua Valley, Senior, Outfielder: Achieved a .348 batting average, recording eight doubles, two triples, one home run, 21 RBIs, and 31 runs scored. Maintained a flawless fielding percentage in 68 chances. Earned all-conference honors.
- Gio Calandriello, Benet, Senior, Pitcher: Returned from Tommy John surgery to compile a 5-2 record with a 2.71 ERA, one save, and 45 strikeouts over 41 1/3 innings. All-conference selection. Committed to Loras College.
- Lawton Close, Naperville North, Sophomore, Pitcher/Third Baseman: Posted a 3-2 record, one save, and a 2.56 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 46 innings. Batted .309 with 11 doubles, three home runs, and 22 RBIs. Conference pitcher of the year.
- Scott Gillen, Waubonsie Valley, Junior, Second Baseman: Batted .353 with 11 doubles, 22 RBIs, 38 runs scored, and 22 stolen bases. All-conference honoree.
- Tyler Gluting, Metea Valley, Junior, Outfielder: Achieved a .432 batting average with 14 doubles, eight home runs, 25 RBIs, and 35 runs scored. All-conference and Class 4A all-state selection. Committed to Oklahoma.
In a regional quarterfinal, Tyler Gluting hit a home run against Neuqua Valley.
- Cooper Page, Naperville Central, Senior, Shortstop: Batted .314 with nine doubles, one home run, and 18 RBIs. Collected 36 runs scored. Recognized with all-conference honors.
- Michael Page, Naperville Central, Senior, Outfielder: Batted .385, hit 14 doubles, four triples, and three home runs, with 26 RBIs. Recorded 28 runs scored and eight stolen bases. All-conference. Committed to North Central College.
- Quinn Rooney, Benet, Junior, First Baseman: Batted .385 with five doubles, five triples, and four home runs. Collected 31 RBIs and eight successful stolen bases. All-conference. Committed to Notre Dame.
- Max Steele, Naperville North, Senior, Pitcher/Outfielder: Compiled a 4-3 record, achieving 47 strikeouts over 37 2/3 innings. Batted .375 with 12 doubles, two triples, 25 RBIs, and 29 runs scored. All-conference. Committed to Benedictine University.
- Shane Torres, Waubonsie Valley, Junior, Catcher: Achieved a .471 batting average with 11 doubles and two home runs, scoring 35 RBIs and 29 walks. Named conference player of the year. Committed to Oakland University.
- Grant Umbright, Naperville Central, Senior, Pitcher/Third Baseman: Held a 9-1 record with a 2.03 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings. Batted .324 with four home runs and 30 RBIs. All-conference. Committed to John A. Logan College.
