Tractor Supply to Close Dozens of Petsense Stores Across 17 States

Tractor Supply has announced plans to close approximately 75 of its over 200 Petsense stores across 17 states. This move aims to restructure the business, focusing resources on high-growth and high-return opportunities. CEO Hal Lawton highlighted the importance of this strategy during an earnings call.

Lawton noted the stores slated for closure reported negative cash flow. “After these closures, we expect to have a strong, profitable Petsense business,” Lawton stated, emphasizing the role these changes will play in enhancing the broader pet ecosystem the company is developing.

The locations subject to closure were recently made public when Gordon Brothers, an investment firm, listed more than 70 Petsense stores available for lease. Gordon Brothers had previously participated in Big Lots’ bankruptcy.

A representative for Tractor Supply confirmed that the listed stores will undergo a “wind-down process,” anticipated to last eight to ten weeks.
