The bodies of David Thalman and Francesca Warick were found off Washington Island on Monday, according to a statement from the Door County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Island Police Department.
Washington Island is situated across from the Door Peninsula. Kayakers attempting the journey from the Door Peninsula must navigate the challenging Death’s Door strait to reach Washington Island. Authorities believe neither Thalman nor Warick was wearing a life jacket at the time. The Door County Sheriff’s Office assumed command of the search, transitioning it to a recovery mission on Sunday.
