Tragic Deaths of Bryn Walker Co-Founders Under Investigation

Bryn Walker co-founders Bryan Walker, 61, and Michelle Min, 63, were discovered dead outside their Oakland Hills home. Both suffered gunshot wounds, sparking an ongoing police investigation.

The authorities have yet to determine who fired the weapon. The news has left family and neighbors in shock. Efforts to reach the Oakland Police Department for comments were made via email outside regular hours.

From a Small Retail Business to a National Brand

Founded in 1992, Bryn Walker started as a small Berkeley retail business. Over the years, it grew into a nationwide women’s clothing brand. According to the company’s website, they operate six stores and supply around 1,000 boutiques across the U.S.

Details of the Oakland Hills Shooting

Police responded to the Panoramic Hill area, near UC Berkeley, on October 2 after reports of gunfire. Officers found the couple outside their home. They administered lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A firearm was recovered, and the officers have considered a murder-suicide scenario. A neighbor reported hearing gunshots and discovering the couple. Authorities state they are not searching for suspects and believe the community is not at risk.

Paul Min’s Suspicions

Michelle Min’s brother, Paul Min, suspects Walker may have shot his sister before turning the gun on himself. However, he struggles to align this theory with the character of the man he knew for nearly forty years, describing Walker as honest and responsible.

Walker recently experienced substantial financial losses, affecting his mental health. Paul Min noted Walker’s troubling suggestion that they should “end things,” increasing concerns for his well-being.

Concerns About Walker’s Mental Health

Paul Min and his sister discussed psychiatric treatment for Walker. Paul later discovered a note listing treatment centers, wondering if Walker knew of their plans. Michelle Min remained somewhat hopeful, considering relocating from the Bay Area.

Building the Bryn Walker Brand

The couple first met in the Midwest in the 1980s before moving to California. Michelle Min, who studied fine arts at Washington University, initiated her own clothing designs, contributing to the brand’s growth.

Reflections on Michelle Min’s Life

Paul Min shared details about his sister’s pivotal role in his upbringing after their family immigrated from Korea in 1977. She also helped care for their parents and supported him through his battle with Stage 4 colorectal cancer.

Their dog, Pip, a miniature Australian shepherd, was present at the home during the incident. A friend now cares for Pip, as Paul Min confirmed.

Community Vigil and Continued Investigation

Residents held a vigil in Berkeley to honor the couple. Janice Thomas expressed the community’s need to gather during this unsettling time, despite not knowing the couple personally.

The investigation by the Oakland Police Department continues with authorities requesting any relevant information or media. Support is available for those struggling emotionally through the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.
