A tragic event took place at Shasta Lake in Northern California when a man lost his life trying to rescue a dog. Geordan White, a 60-year-old resident of Redding, was identified by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office as the individual who drowned after jumping into the lake Friday morning to save the animal.
Authorities reported that White experienced an “unknown emergency” shortly after entering the water. This information was provided by a person who called in about a potential drowning incident. The caller managed to save the dog, but noted that White struggled to hold onto a flotation device and vanished beneath the water near Bailey Cove boat launch.
A dive team recovered White’s body later that afternoon. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to White’s family and emphasized the importance of wearing flotation devices during boating activities.
