Transit Worker Stabbed in Chicago: Alleged Suspect with Prior Legal Issues Detained

Chevazz Campbell, 37, is accused of fatally stabbing Julian Mobley, a 41-year-old Chicago Transit Authority janitor. This tragic incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at the Damen Green Line station, as reported by FOX 32 Chicago.

Witnesses say Campbell attacked Mobley during an argument after entering the station without paying. The suspect allegedly sprayed Mobley’s face with mace twice, before stabbing him in the neck.

“ATU Local 308 Brother Julian Mobley, a CTA Janitor, was tragically killed while trying to stop an attack over a fare dispute. He died a hero,” the Amalgamated Transit Union stated.

The authorities revealed that Campbell was under electronic monitoring and had multiple probation violations related to curfew breaches at the time of the attack.

Police arrested Campbell hours after the incident and charged him with murder. He is also accused of robbing Mobley during the attack. Charges against Campbell include first-degree murder, armed robbery, and felon in possession of a weapon.

In a statement, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson emphasized his administration’s commitment to ensuring safety for both commuters and employees of the CTA. Efforts to curb crimes on public transit continue.

Fox News Digital contacted the Chicago Transit Authority for further comments on the matter.
