Tropical Depression Champi Threatens Guam and Surrounding Areas

Tropical Depression Champi is currently positioned about 1,000 miles east of Guam, heading towards the U.S. territory of the Northern Mariana Islands. This storm has the potential to bring severe weather conditions to these regions over the weekend, along with a possibility of affecting Taiwan and Japan later on.

Satellite images, as observed by meteorologist Ben Noll, provide a visual of Champi’s current location and trajectory. The imagery was shared by The Washington Post with data from the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Himawari-9 satellite.

The Pacific has experienced a record-breaking year for storm activity. This increase is attributed to an intense El NiƱo event impacting weather patterns across the region. Champi could become one of the strongest storms of the year if it rapidly intensifies in the coming days.
