President Donald Trump, in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, criticized the news media for allegedly wanting the United States to fail in its conflict with Iran. He defended the military campaign and hinted at more strikes against Tehran.
Trump argued that despite Iran’s weakened military, they receive supportive coverage from a “fake news” press. He stated, “All they do is talk and they have fake press. They do very well with the fake press because the fake news wants us to lose.”
The president aimed particular criticism at The New York Times, claiming the paper reported that Iran was stronger than before the U.S.-Israeli military campaign began. Trump remarked, “They have no Navy, have no Air Force, have no anything. They have no military, they have nothing.”
He cited Iran’s inflation surge, which he claimed the Times ignored when suggesting Iran was in better shape than before his efforts began. “And their inflation, by the way, just hit 301%, from 5%,” Trump noted.
Trump hinted at imminent further American military actions amid ongoing missile and drone exchanges with Iran. “We’re going to hit them very hard tonight, and we’re going to hit them hard tomorrow,” he declared.
In targeting Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain complex, Trump explained, “Pickaxe is a possible target for a nice big fat shot right near the front door.” He assured that U.S. monitoring revealed no resumed nuclear activities at Pickaxe Mountain.
Trump concluded that Iran’s leaders, if armed with nuclear weapons, would not hesitate to use them: “If they ever had a nuclear weapon, they’d use it within one day,” he stated.
In related military developments, U.S. Central Command announced resumption of a blockade involving vessels traveling to or from Iranian ports, permitting humanitarian shipments but warning of potential force against non-compliance.
