President Donald Trump provided insights into talks between the United States and Iran. This follows the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding by both nations, intending to end the ongoing conflict.
Memorandum of Understanding
In an interview with Axios’ Marc Caputo, Trump discussed the 14-point MOU. He countered allegations that this agreement didn’t signify unconditional surrender from Iran. “Well, it really is unconditional surrender,” Trump remarked, when queried by Caputo.
“They have no military. They’re all at the bottom of the sea. 159 ships. That’s what they had,” Trump claimed, describing the weakened state of Iran’s military.
Military Operations
Trump emphasized the U.S.’s success in severely impacting Iran’s military capabilities. He noted that Iran’s leaders and significant assets had been targeted efficiently. “There’s no airplanes,” he maintained, stressing the destruction of their naval and aerial fleets.
The President shared details on covert operations that crippled Iran’s naval forces. For about two months, U.S. efforts focused on neutralizing Iranian ships without detection. This involved extensive strategic attacks on nights when Iran’s defensive systems were disabled.
Economic Interests and Strait of Hormuz
Trump linked the negotiations to economic benefits, especially concerning the Strait of Hormuz. “The oil prices are tumbling,” Trump stated, as the MOU aimed to reopen this crucial oil passage.
The agreement specifies a 60-day negotiation period on nuclear matters. Trump’s economic motives are evident as he connects the opening of the Strait with stock market gains.
Crime Reduction and City Enhancements
Trump took the opportunity to highlight his administration’s domestic achievements, including reducing Washington, D.C.’s crime rate by 94% within a year. Additionally, he mentioned efforts to beautify the city, from new grass installations to removing graffiti.
According to Trump, these enhancements aim to prepare the capital for the U.S.’s 250th anniversary, showcasing improved safety and aesthetics in Washington, D.C.
