President Donald Trump has decided against plans to livestream the execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan. This decision opposes the wishes of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump acknowledged that Hasan was “a very bad and evil man,” but asserted that his execution by firing squad would not be broadcast. Trump mentioned that such a broadcast “might have been a strong deterrent,” yet many people prefer not to witness such events through streaming or other visual media.
The president stated, “He will die, as scheduled, by firing squad, but this event will not be streamed.” However, immediate families of the victims will have the option to view the execution in person if they choose to. Trump remarked, “They deserve to witness JUSTICE!”
Nidal Malik Hasan was responsible for killing 13 people and injuring more than 30 others during a 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.
Defense Secretary Hegseth previously expressed plans on October 8 to publicly broadcast Hasan’s execution, which would mark the first public execution in the U.S. in decades. Both President Trump and Vice President JD Vance opposed this idea, and former military leaders voiced their concerns as well.
