Trump Supporters Stand Firm Amid Rising Gas Prices

With gas prices rising as midterm elections approach, supporters of President Donald Trump in Texas remain loyal, highlighting concerns about the country’s future. Despite the economic pressure, attendees at rallies in Lubbock and Corpus Christi continue to back Trump, citing worries over socialism and the nation’s direction.

On Wednesday, the national average for a gallon of gas reached around $4.25, a significant increase from about $3.05 a year ago. During a rally in Lubbock, Trump acknowledged these higher costs and emphasized increased American oil production along with a recent energy deal with Venezuela as efforts to reduce prices.

“Our country is making a fortune while people have to pay more at the pump,” Trump commented. “Gas prices are going to come down really fast.”

In Corpus Christi, Trump announced the arrival of one million barrels of Venezuelan oil, secured through an agreement with Venezuela. The White House indicated this oil was being provided at no cost to taxpayers and would be refined in Texas, with the aim of lowering consumer costs and supporting domestic jobs.

Stephen Elsher from Corpus Christi expressed that the economy is his main concern ahead of the midterms, believing Republican management is necessary for improvement. Without the Republicans in charge, we won’t go in the right direction, Elsher remarked.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party faces growing influence from its progressive wing, with democratic socialist candidates gaining visibility. Trump criticized what he termed the “radical left Democrat communist” agenda, warning that Democratic policies could raise taxes, threaten oil and gas jobs in Texas, and undermine border security.

“The choice in this election is very simple,” Trump stated, contrasting his economic vision with Democratic plans.

For some rally attendees, the stakes go beyond economic affordability, as concerns grow about socialism’s impact on the country’s future. Susie, a supporter from Corpus Christi, stressed the importance of preserving the republic, saying the nation faces threats from Democrats, socialists, and communists.

Elizabeth Trigo, another rally attendee, highlighted the significance of the midterms beyond the immediate election, focusing on future opportunities for coming generations. The main reason this election matters is the future, Trigo explained. She expressed hope that Trump would continue tackling issues like the war on drugs and socialism during his tenure.
