The Oklahoma governor race may be entering a significant new phase with former President Donald Trump endorsing Mike Mazzei, an ex-state senator and budget secretary. A recent survey by JMC Analytics and Polling indicates Trump’s backing might be boosting Mazzei among Republican primary voters with elections only 12 days away.
In past polls, Mazzei rarely led. However, this new survey places him at 24% of the hypothetical vote. Attorney General Gentner Drummond follows closely at 20%. Other contenders include ex-State Senator Jake Merrick at 12%, former Secretary of Public Safety Chip Keating at 10%, and former Speaker of the House Charles McCall at 7%. Candidates below 3% are also in the race, and 25% of the voters remain undecided.
Mazzei and Drummond are statistically tied, considering the poll’s margin of error. Mazzei expressed his stance, stating, “We earned Donald Trump’s endorsement because our conservative policy goals align. President Trump and I aim to lower taxes, eliminate government fraud, and enhance the economy for all.” He described Oklahoma as a solidly Republican state, expecting continued growth in support.
Drummond’s campaign was contacted for comments but has not yet responded. When undecided voters were asked about their inclinations, 11% leaned towards Mazzei, 6% towards Keating, 5% towards Drummond, and 3% towards either Merrick or McCall. Still, 68% have not chosen a candidate.
The poll conducted on June 2 and 3 among 550 likely Republican primary voters bears a margin of error of 4.18%. In recent primary races, candidates endorsed by Trump often succeed. While some races like those of Senator Bill Cassidy and Congressman Thomas Massie ended in losses, Trump’s endorsements primarily aim to consolidate votes aligned with his policies.
“Mike knows the AMERICA FIRST Policies required to Grow our Economy, Create GREAT Jobs, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., and Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE,” Trump stated in his endorsement of Mazzei.
A separate poll by NonDoc from May 21 to 25 shows Mazzei at 22.1%, Drummond at 21.66%, and Keating at 21.44%, with McCall reaching double digits at 18.38%. Conducted among 457 Oklahoma Republicans, it has a margin of error of 4.6%, as reported by News9.
Another poll by Cole Hargrave Snodgrass & Associates presents Drummond with 36%, followed by McCall at 14%, Keating and Mazzei both at 13%, and Merrick at 5%. Conducted from January 26 to 30 among 600 Republican primary voters, these results fall within a margin of error of 4.3%.
Results from a co/efficient survey last October showed McCall at 31%, Drummond at 20%, Keating at 5%, Merrick at 3%, and Mazzei at 1%, while 38% remained undecided.
