Saturday’s college football scene featured significant SEC rivalries, yet Tulsa’s visit to Navy delivered one of the weekend’s most unexpected plays. The Golden Hurricane scored a remarkable touchdown in the first quarter that surprised everyone.
With less than two minutes left in the first quarter, Tulsa and Navy were tied at seven. On Navy’s 10-yard line, a surprising sequence of plays unfolded. Quarterback Baylor Hayes aimed a backwards pass at wide receiver Oran Singleton Jr. He initially found himself trapped seven yards behind the line of scrimmage.
Showing remarkable agility, Singleton evaded a tackle and tossed a daring pass into tight coverage. Wide receiver David Wells Jr. made a spectacular play by tipping the ball back to himself just outside the end zone. He secured it and dashed back in for a touchdown.
Singleton’s impressive performance didn’t stop there. He added another touchdown to push Tulsa to a 26-14 lead early in the second half.
Unfortunately, the season has been challenging for Navy. Last year, they enjoyed national ranking and success by capturing the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy and winning the Liberty Bowl with an 11-2 record. This year has seen more losses than the previous season at this point.
Tulsa, by contrast, has kicked off the new season at 3-2, aiming to improve on last season’s 4-8 record. Their innovative play against Navy has certainly sparked attention.
