Two Chicago Police Officers Shot in South Shore Neighborhood

Authorities reported that two Chicago police officers were shot on Friday evening in the South Shore neighborhood. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near East 79th Street and South Chappel Avenue. The officers were then transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, as stated by Chicago Fire Department spokesperson Larry Merritt. A civilian was also taken to the hospital.

The specific conditions of the officers and the civilian haven’t been disclosed yet. While the exact details surrounding the shooting remain unclear, a police source involved in the investigation mentioned that gunfire was exchanged following a traffic stop. According to the source, one officer was shot in the vest while the other sustained an injury to the arm.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability has confirmed it is investigating the officer-involved shooting, which took place near 2000 East 79th Street.
