Tyler Loop, selected in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2025 NFL Draft, had a significant task ahead. He was chosen to follow in the footsteps of legendary kicker Justin Tucker.
Loop had a promising rookie season. He converted 95.7 percent of his extra point attempts and completed 88.2 percent of his field goals. Impressively, he was flawless with 21 field goal attempts within the 39-yard mark. Despite this, Loop faced challenges with long-range kicks, managing only one successful 52-yard kick from four attempts beyond 50 yards.
Ravens special teams coordinator Anthony Levine Sr. spoke about Loop’s offseason efforts. During training camp, Loop succeeded in a 57-yard field goal attempt.
“We have the confidence in Tyler Loop to go out and make any kick from anywhere on the field,” Levine commented. “He’s demonstrated his capability, making a 57-yarder, a 53-yarder, and a 49-yarder, while successfully hitting several under 45 yards.”
Loop concluded the previous season on a disappointing note, missing a 44-yard field goal as time expired, leading to a 26-24 defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers. This miss cost the Ravens a playoff spot by denying them the AFC North title.
After the game, Loop expressed his determination to move past the error. He mentioned the team’s “one-minute rule” meant to help players overcome mistakes quickly.
“This one will take more than a minute since it’s the season’s last play, but next time I step on the field, I’ll move on,” Loop said.
With Loop’s improvement in training camp, the Ravens remain optimistic. They trust him to maintain consistency and improve his long-distance accuracy through the preseason.
