The United States may have intentionally withheld early warnings of Russian missile attacks on Ukraine, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Ukraine received no forewarning from allies before a ballistic missile strike targeting Kyiv and other regions early on a recent Tuesday.
Sources report that American officials attributed the lack of warning to a failure in the missile detection system, citing ‘bad weather’ as the cause. However, Ukrainian officials, speaking anonymously due to the sensitive nature of the matter, expressed skepticism over this explanation. They accused the U.S. of manipulating the information system.
When a subsequent missile attack occurred around 3 a.m. local time on Wednesday, it was noted that the U.S. early warning system functioned properly. Ukrainian rescue workers and paramedics were seen aiding a wounded individual at the scene of a missile strike on an apartment building in Kyiv, illustrating the ongoing crisis.
‘We want the war to end,’ stated President Trump, when questioned about the sharing of intelligence with Ukraine.
This incident marks the second time this year when the U.S. reportedly did not provide intelligence on Russian missile launches, with greater focus purportedly directed towards Middle Eastern matters. During the recent attack, over 39 ballistic missiles and 120 attack drones targeted essential energy and infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv, resulting in six deaths and power cuts affecting approximately 600,000 people.
President Trump denied any cessation of intelligence sharing, emphasizing efforts to assist Ukraine in resolving the conflict. His comments followed earlier social media posts about a purported ‘energy ceasefire’ between Russia and Ukraine.
Further tension arose as the Trump administration warned of halting intelligence sharing and weapon sales to Ukraine if deep strikes on Russian energy infrastructure persisted. Ukraine’s defense relies heavily on U.S. intelligence for operations, using satellite and aircraft sensor data to identify Russian launches.
Adding to the communication challenges, Ukraine experienced disruptions with the Starlink satellite technology managed by SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk. Ukrainian defense sources reported unilateral restrictions on Starshield terminals, hindering UAV missions and frontline logistics.
SpaceX, the White House, and the Pentagon have been contacted for comments as Ukraine seeks backup communication methods.
President Zelenskyy, during his visit to the United Kingdom, urged a U.S. response to perceived Russian provocations. His social media posts reflected a call for decisive global action against Russia’s defiance.
