U.S. Engages in Reciprocal Military Actions Against Iran Amid Rising Tensions

U.S. Launches New Strikes on Iran

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced its forces began self-defense strikes at 5:15 p.m. ET against various targets in Iran. This action follows the Commander in Chief’s orders in response to what CENTCOM describes as ongoing Iranian aggression.

Defense Secretary Confirms Upcoming Assaults

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the U.S. military would be attacking Iran. Speaking at the CENTCOM headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, Hegseth stated that operations would focus on undermining Iran’s capabilities.

He also mentioned U.S. efforts in protecting commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Over 100 million barrels of oil have been safeguarded through this initiative.

Sanctions and Maritime Operations

The U.S. State Department imposed new sanctions on 13 individuals and entities linked to Iran’s weapons procurement operations. These entities span Iran, Belarus, and China, involving attempts to acquire military systems for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The Treasury Department added sanctions against nine individuals and companies that facilitated these transactions.

Military Actions in the Gulf of Oman

CENTCOM reported the disabling of an oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, citing its violation of the blockade aiming to transport oil from Iran.

Since the blockade’s inception on April 13, eight non-compliant vessels have been disabled, and many ships redirected according to compliance with U.S. forces.

Diplomatic and Economic Implications

While military actions continue, diplomatic discussions seem strained. President Trump reiterated his commitment to a deal with Iran but emphasized strong military actions in response to aggression.

The price of oil spiked following the announcement of continued military actions, demonstrating immediate economic impacts on global markets.

International and Regional Reactions

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized attacks on critical infrastructure as signs of U.S. helplessness. In Lebanon, the IDF continues operations against Hezbollah, leading to large-scale civilian displacement.

The situation remains tense as regional and international stakeholders coordinate responses or reactions to the ongoing developments.
