The San Francisco-based company, Anthropic, announced that the U.S. government has ordered a halt on its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 artificial intelligence models due to national security concerns. The suspension affects all foreign nationals’ access, including those working for Anthropic.
Anthropic disclosed the government’s directive in a social media update, stating it must immediately shut down the A.I. systems for all clients to comply with the order. The government worries that these A.I. systems pose potential threats to computer networks, which could be exploited by hackers.
Claude Mythos, another A.I. system developed by Anthropic and unveiled in April, hasn’t been released to the public due to concerns it might aid hackers in breaching networks. Approximately 40 organizations that specialize in critical computer infrastructure had access to this system to improve security measures.
According to an anonymous source, the Commerce Department issued this mandate. The duration of the restrictions is currently unknown.
