On September 2, 2026, at noon ET, the U.S. Mint will commence the sale of gold-colored $1 coins depicting President Donald Trump’s likeness. Prices will range from approximately $1.55 to $2.44 per coin, depending on the purchase quantity. These coins, announced in July, display Mr. Trump’s face on the front side, accompanied by the inscriptions “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 ~ 2026.”
The reverse side of the coin features the presidential seal. This seal illustrates an eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows, along with the inscription “250,” commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary. The pricing varies with quantity, with a roll of 25 coins costing $61 and a 100-coin bag priced at $154.50. The U.S. Mint has stated that the coins will be available for sale on September 2.
These gold-colored coins are created to honor the United States’ 250th anniversary. Despite existing regulations that permit only deceased individuals on U.S. currency, the Trump administration cites a 2020 law allowing current presidents to appear on coinage commemorating significant national milestones.
The U.S. Mint describes these coins as suitable for legal tender but suggests they serve as collectibles. They’ve been crafted to mark this historic anniversary, combining standard American coinage with a unique commemorative design, potentially gaining prominence in modern collections.
The coins are gold-colored but predominantly composed of copper, with 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel, containing no real gold. In addition, the Mint announced that it will randomly distribute 250,000 special-issue $1 coins featuring a “July 4th” privy mark within the bags and rolls available on its site.
