U.S. Sanctions on Iranian Airlines Aim to Pressure Iran for a Deal

The U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on over two dozen Iranian airlines and their service providers. This action is a part of the administration’s strategy to isolate Tehran from the global economy.

The sanctions fall under what officials call ‘Operation Economic Outcast.’ The objective is to exert enough pressure on Iran to bring them to the negotiating table for an agreement that would end the war started by the United States and Israel in late February.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed these measures during a recent appearance in Asheville, North Carolina. The administration believes that these sanctions could significantly impact Iran’s economy, prompting them to consider negotiations.
