Ukraine carried out significant overnight attacks on various oil facilities deep within Russia, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. These measures are part of Ukraine’s ongoing strategy to disrupt Russia’s wartime economy and challenge the Kremlin. The consistent targeting of oil facilities has led to fuel shortages and caused unease among the Russian populace.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian regions continue to experience regular attacks, which have tested the limits of Kyiv’s air defenses amid the continued full-scale invasion by Russia. Recently, the Kyiv region observed a day of mourning for 17 individuals who were killed in a missile and drone attack by Russia. This incident has accelerated efforts by Ukraine and its allies to secure additional air defense resources.
According to the United Nations office in Kyiv, there have been increasing civilian casualties, with 1,396 deaths and 7,978 injuries reported in the first half of the year. This marks a significant rise compared to previous years, primarily due to more frequent long-range attacks by Russia.
President Zelenskyy has met with senior officials to discuss the advancement of Ukraine’s own ballistic weapon capabilities. He anticipates the development program to yield results soon after overcoming challenges such as securing vital components and collaborating technologically with partner countries.

Ukrainian military actions include targeting refineries in Russia’s Bashkortostan and Yaroslavl regions. Zelenskyy announced on social media that these refineries were attacked, in addition to Russian military patrol boats in the Black Sea and vessels known as the ‘shadow fleet’ that are used to bypass Western sanctions on oil exports. Details of these operations were not disclosed.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that its air defense systems shot down 605 Ukrainian drones across its territory. On the Ukrainian side, drone and glide bomb attacks overnight led to at least three civilian deaths and 22 injuries. The need for enhanced air defense is urgent as countries supporting Ukraine rush to supply necessary equipment.
Recent weeks have seen Moscow’s forces assaulting Ukraine with ballistic missiles. Ukrainian officials emphasize the critical role of the U.S.-provided Patriot air defense system, which has seen a depletion in missile stock due to the ongoing conflict. President Zelenskyy has engaged in talks with international leaders, including NATO Chief Mark Rutte and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, to speed up the process of acquiring interceptor missiles.
In northeast Ukraine, Russian strikes resulted in fatalities and injuries. In Kherson, a Russian drone attack injured farmworkers, while another struck a residential zone in Zaporizhzhia, injuring more residents. The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the increasing hostilities and urged for the freedom of navigation in the Black and Azov seas to mitigate the threat to maritime activities.
