Ukrainian Attacks Pressure Russia Towards Negotiations

Ukrainian military efforts inside Russia are encouraging negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv, according to Matt Whitaker, U.S. Ambassador to NATO. Speaking on ‘The Big Weekend Show’, Whitaker highlighted the need for cooperation from both sides to end the conflict.

Despite progress, Whitaker noted significant differences remain between Moscow and Kyiv on essential matters. He stressed the importance of diplomacy and negotiation in resolving the conflict, saying, “This conflict is not going to be resolved on the battlefield.”

Efforts are ongoing by former President Donald Trump, who continues to engage with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to facilitate peace discussions. Trump’s approach focuses on identifying common ground between the adversaries.

Whitaker warned that without willingness from Putin to compromise, reaching a deal would be challenging. However, he expressed optimism about Trump’s capabilities as a businessman and dealmaker to achieve an agreement.

In the context of the ongoing conflict, Trump highlighted the loss of life, mentioning that 25,000 individuals died in Ukraine last month, with the previous month seeing 32,000 fatalities. Of these, a significant majority were soldiers. The Center for Strategic & International Studies estimates Russia has lost up to 450,000 soldiers since the invasion of Ukraine began in 2022.
