Collecting sports memorabilia often leads to surprising findings. What seems like an ordinary trading card can reveal unexpected details. One such case involves a 1990-91 NBA Hoops card featuring Mark Jackson, the former New York Knicks point guard and future Golden State Warriors head coach.
Recently, a trading card gained notoriety when collectors noticed Erik and Lyle Menendez sitting in floor seats during a Knicks-Clippers game. These brothers, later convicted of murdering their parents, were visible on the card. The photo was taken after the Menendez brothers’ crimes, reportedly funded by life insurance payouts.
Sports memorabilia collector Darren Rovell owns one of these infamous cards. On ‘The Craig Carton Show,’ Rovell showcased the framed trading card, highlighting the curious detail. He pointed out that the Menendez brothers attended the Knicks game after committing the murders.
Craig Carton expressed disbelief at this revelation, stating, “They went to a Knicks game AFTER the murders?” Currently, the Menendez brothers are serving a 50-year to life sentence, with a parole hearing scheduled for March 2027.
This incident serves as a reminder for collectors: you never know who might appear in the background of your favorite player’s trading card.
