The union representing 2,000 workers at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles has voted to authorize a potential strike. This decision does not mean an immediate walkout but permits them to strike at any time. The vote comes just a week before the U.S. team’s opening World Cup match.
Immigrant rights advocates and labor groups had previously held a protest outside the FIFA Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee offices on May 27. Their rally focused on demanding protection from potential immigration enforcement actions during the World Cup events.
The possibility of a strike underscores the workers’ concerns and their demand for safeguards during one of soccer’s largest global tournaments.
