Unusual Behavior on Flight Sparks Outrage

Passengers on an EVA Air flight recently witnessed an unusual incident when a business-class traveler scratched his scalp with a drinking glass. This peculiar behavior occurred on a flight out of Taiwan on September 24 and was captured on video.

In-Flight Incident

The event took place on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. A traveler seated behind the man recorded the episode in disbelief as he used the rim of a glass to scratch his head. This left nearby passengers feeling unsettled.

“This is disgusting. It’s a cup, not a massage comb,” an observer stated, expressing their disgust at the situation. The person who filmed the video noted, “No one wants to eat your dandruff. I’m really going to vomit.”

Response from Experts

Texas-based etiquette expert Diane Gottsman commented on the incident. She emphasized that using a glass to scratch one’s head is inappropriate, especially in public settings.

“Any time you see someone scratching themselves with an object, or even with their fingers in a public area — it’s unappealing and somewhat alarming,” she said.

Context of Public Behavior

Such behavior has sparked discussions about in-flight etiquette and public conduct. In recent years, travelers have increasingly voiced concerns over inappropriate behavior on planes.

In March 2026, another incident involved a passenger placing their feet up on a window, prompting complaints from fellow travelers. Gottsman remarked on the importance of maintaining awareness of others when in public spaces.

“When you’re in your home, you are in a private space. When you are out in public, there are different standards because you are around other people and must be aware of your surroundings and the comfort level of others,” she explained.
