Certain migrant communities have been linked to widespread fraud, costing taxpayers billions, according to Vice President JD Vance. Vance, interviewed in his West Wing office, discussed his leadership of the fraud task force under President Trump. He observed patterns of collaboration within migrant communities.
“Patterns emerge where individual migrants exploit systems,” Vance stated. “One person might realize you can claim children without verification, and news spreads within the community.”
Vance spoke alongside Mehmet Oz, Administrator for Medicare and Medicaid Services, on combating fraud at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. He highlighted how his task force has suspended federal payments to hospice and home health agencies suspected of fraud in Minnesota and California. Other states are under scrutiny.
The American taxpayer emerges as the main victim. “You expect your money to serve its intended purpose,” Vance emphasized. He recounted instances where mothers and autistic children were deprived of support due to fraudulent exploitations.
Vance’s team identified $230 billion in uncovered fraud since Trump’s term began, halting $55 billion in payments. Last week, law enforcement charged 19 individuals in fraudulent schemes totaling over $4 million according to the DOJ. Pennsylvania’s Attorney General announced a plea agreement involving a $1.7 million fraud case.
He acknowledged recouping funds is challenging. “Preventing money from leaving is our best solution,” Vance said. Reports exposed fraudulent daycare networks mostly operated by Somali immigrants. DHS and ICE agents deployed to Minneapolis, leading to clashes and riots.
Trump has heavily relied on Vance, involving him in international negotiations alongside domestic fraud prevention. This responsibility followed his appointment as head of the anti-fraud task force.
Despite his demanding role, Vance celebrated his fourth child’s birth with First Lady Usha Vance. He shared anecdotes of work-life balance, emphasizing the importance of family.
Trump has praised Vance as a potential successor, though endorsing him as president remains uncertain.
