Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, a Democrat from Virginia, recently disclosed that the FBI and the Justice Department monitored his phone calls with state Sen. Louise Lucas. Subramanyam, who is serving his first term in Congress and is a former Virginia Senate member, issued a statement revealing this development. He claimed the surveillance was part of a corruption investigation targeting Lucas.
“This is deeply concerning,” Subramanyam stated. “Trump’s DOJ has become his own personal law firm.”
He noted that the timing of the wiretap and the investigation appeared suspicious, overlapping with the state’s vote on a new Democratic congressional map and a subsequent court ruling.
The surveillance reportedly took place from March 6 to April 5 and again from April 14 to May 14. Virginia voters narrowly approved the new map on April 21, but the state’s Supreme Court blocked it on May 8. The FBI declined to comment, and the Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment.
