VP JD Vance Reflects on Potential 2028 Presidential Run and Trump’s Endorsement

Vice President JD Vance recently shared his thoughts on whether he would secure an endorsement from President Donald Trump should he decide to run for president in 2028. In a conversation with journalist Mark Halperin on the platform 2Way, Vance expressed uncertainty about receiving Trump’s support immediately. This discussion took place weeks before the midterm elections, during which Republicans aim to maintain their hold on Congress.

Despite acknowledging the significance of Trump’s endorsement, Vance emphasized that his primary focus remains on the upcoming midterm elections. He also mentioned that a 2028 presidential run is not certain but believes Trump would likely endorse him if he chose to run. However, Vance has not yet discussed this possibility with Trump.

I think if I run, the president will endorse me. – JD Vance

When asked by Halperin whether Trump’s prompt endorsement was expected, Vance responded, suggesting that while he believes so, he hasn’t had that conversation with Trump. Halperin proposed that it might be surprising for Vance to discuss his aspirations with Trump without an immediate endorsement. Vance disagreed, explaining that it might be beneficial for candidates to campaign independently, allowing the race to unfold naturally before seeking Trump’s endorsement.

Halperin brought up Vance’s earlier remarks, which asserted that the candidate endorsed by Trump typically secures the Republican nomination. Vance agreed, noting that this is often the case for both parties but more pronounced with Trump. Trump’s support is particularly influential as it resonates with grassroots voters despite opposition from party elites.

I think that Trump’s endorsement just carries more weight than any political endorsement in history because of that. – JD Vance

Vance’s uncertainty about an endorsement follows Trump’s previous suggestion of a potential 2028 presidential matchup between Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump referred to them as a ‘dream team’ during a Rose Garden Club event but didn’t specify who would lead the ticket.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment on Vance’s statements.
