Washington Commanders Linebacker Leo Chenal Injured in Game Against Seahawks

Washington Commanders linebacker Leo Chenal will miss Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks after sustaining a neck injury. He was taken off the field on a cart but was observed moving his limbs as he departed. Chenal signaled to fans with a fist pump and a wave, indicating mobility.

The incident occurred during the second quarter at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, on September 27, 2026. Chenal got injured while tackling Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson. The injury appeared to result from Chenal leading with his head and compressing his neck by tucking it down instead of keeping it up. After the collision, Chenal lay motionless briefly on the field.

Medical personnel quickly attended to the defensive player, placing him on a spine board and transporting him away. The team announced he would not return to the match.

Coach Dan Quinn, caught on the FOX broadcast, reacted by looking skyward and exhaling deeply, reflecting the gravity of the moment. The Commanders are still recovering from another serious injury incurred by quarterback Jayden Daniels the previous week. Daniels suffered a severe elbow dislocation that required him to leave the field as well.

During this challenging period, the Commanders have maintained their focus. They led the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks with a 24-10 score well into the second half. Marcus Mariota, stepping in for the injured Daniels, delivered three touchdown passes.

Jayden Daniels is expected to return within a month, as the team excluded surgery from his treatment plan. Despite the setbacks, the Commanders have shown remarkable resilience in continuing their competitive performance.
