The recent ‘Friday Night SmackDown’ concluded with Cody Rhodes and Gunther setting the stage for a major showdown. Rhodes will seek to retain his Undisputed WWE Championship against Gunther at Clash in Italy this Sunday.
Rhodes vs. Gunther Rivalry
Rhodes is displeased due to Gunther’s aggressive tactics. Paul Heyman obliged Gunther with a title match. Meanwhile, Gunther launched multiple surprise attacks on Rhodes. Gunther vowed that these sneak attacks were over and directly addressed Rhodes.
“I’m new to ‘SmackDown,’ but I see the show revolves around you,” Gunther stated. “You grew up in a culture where narcissism is rewarded. You represent the crumbling American dream.”
Gunther accused Rhodes of entitlement in his wrestling career, highlighting that everything seemed handed to him. Gunther’s mission is to safeguard wrestling from such influence.
Rhodes rebuffed, calling Gunther a “liar,” emphasizing that every wrestler dreams of WWE fame. He told Gunther he desired the accolades and exposure and reminded him of his impressive physical form.
“You’re not that good,” Rhodes asserted, indicating his readiness for the imminent clash.
Gunther, confident in his skills, reminded Rhodes that he had already defeated greats like Goldberg, A.J. Styles, and John Cena, suggesting Rhodes was next.
Tensions with Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn, having previously left Rhodes vulnerable to Gunther’s attacks, confronted Rhodes. Zayn expressed a desire not to fight Rhodes despite their previous encounter.
“I tried to help you, Cody,” Zayn said, suggesting Rhodes should be apologetic. “I watched you struggle but held back to teach a lesson.”
Rhodes, furious, promised to teach Zayn a lesson after dealing with Gunther.
Jade Cargill and Rhea Ripley Verbal Clash
Jade Cargill faced the WWE Universe with her team, boasting her uniqueness. Rhea Ripley interrupted to remind Cargill about her impending challenge for the WWE Women’s Championship at Clash in Italy.
Ripley intended to put Cargill in her place, recalling her victory over her at WrestleMania. Cargill retorted, questioning Ripley’s influence over the division.
Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss backed Ripley, challenging Cargill’s dominance. SmackDown GM Nick Aldis set a match between Bliss and Cargill. Cargill triumphed over Bliss, intensifying the rivalry with Ripley.
Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes Collision Course
Trick Williams, basking in his recent successes, announced his participation in the King of the Ring Tournament. But Carmelo Hayes, a figure from his NXT past, interrupted, claiming superiority.
The tensions escalated as Ricky Saints intervened. Saints mocked the drama and issued his challenge. The confrontation between Hayes and Saints led to a double count-out, leaving Williams’ U.S. Championship open to challengers.
