Wyndham Clark rebounded this year, clinching his second U.S. Open title on Sunday by fending off Sam Burns. After two rounds, Clark set a record at Shinnecock Hills with a score of 7-under (133). Despite leading after the third round, he faced challenges as Burns closed in.

Clark overcame a faltering final round, recording a 3-over-73, finishing at 4-under to secure the win. This marked a significant turnaround after he damaged lockers at the same event in Oakmont last year. Clark became the ninth golfer to win the U.S. Open in wire-to-wire fashion, joining the ranks of Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

Following the victory, Clark apologized for his previous behavior at Oakmont, saying, “New York didn’t really like me. I love you guys,” in an interview with Mike Tirico. He acknowledged the past incident and expressed hope to win over fans.

Scottie Scheffler, who turned 30 on Sunday, was close to achieving his first Grand Slam, earning the crowd’s support. Clark managed to stay focused amid the pro-Scheffler audience and Burns’ challenge.

Clark had not won any tournaments last year due to his outburst and subsequent ban. However, recent victories, including The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, signal a turning point. His U.S. Open win and supportive words for Scheffler demonstrate growth as he celebrates his second major victory.
