George Lombard Jr. made a striking debut for the New York Yankees, hitting a home run that contributed to their 2-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Lombard’s Impactful Debut
During the fifth inning, Lombard sent a 0-2 pitch from St. Louis starter Hunter Dobbins into the left-field seats. This 392-foot drive, Lombard’s first in the majors, also marked the first home run by a Yankees player in a debut since Jasson Domínguez achieved a similar feat in September 2023 against Justin Verlander.
At 21 years old, Lombard is among the youngest Yankees players to debut since 1985, following in the footsteps of notable players like Derek Jeter.

Lombard’s defensive skills also stood out. In the third inning, he orchestrated a double play by fielding Blaze Jordan’s grounder and assisting second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. In the fifth inning, he initiated another double play by handling Nathan Church’s grounder efficiently.
