During the game, a spectator interrupted the match by running onto the field carrying a Palestinian flag. Stadium security swiftly tackled and removed the person. Remarkably, the field invasion coincided with 9:11 p.m.
“Fans were reportedly seen throwing drinks and chanting ‘U-S-A’ as the incident unfolded,” a scene evident from the videos taken during the game.
The Yankees and Mets players wore caps honoring FDNY, NYPD, and other first responders. Across the league, participants donned caps featuring a ‘We Shall Never Forget’ patch, underscoring the solemnity of the occasion.
Designated hitter Ben Rice contributed to the Yankees’ score with a home run, boosting the team’s record to 85-62. The Yankees are now a season-high 23 games above .500 and sit three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.
Rookie Spencer Jones and Ryan McMahon also added RBI singles, fortifying the Yankees’ lead. Pitcher Carlos Rodón showcased skill by allowing only two runs and three hits over 6.3 innings, including eight strikeouts, with significant moments against Mets’ slugger Juan Soto.
Bellinger’s homer was especially noted as he hit it after receiving the ceremonial first pitch from Brielle Saracini. Her father, Victor Saracini, was the pilot of United Airlines Flight 175, which tragically struck the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
