Young Child Injured in South Deering Neighborhood Shooting

A 4-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound to his head in a home on the Far South Side, authorities reported. The incident occurred late Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to a call in the 2200 block of East 99th Street in the South Deering neighborhood. Officers discovered the injured child at approximately 4 p.m., according to the Chicago police.

The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital. He was initially listed in critical condition. Authorities reported the recovery of one firearm at the scene.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating the details surrounding the incident, according to the police.
