Actor Zachary Levi left California for Texas in 2017, driven by dissatisfaction with his home state and a desire to reshape the entertainment industry. The “Chuck” star and current lead in “The Fix” spoke with Fox News Digital about his move. Levi described California as a “failed state,” stating it’s both “literally and figuratively on fire.” Disillusioned with the traditional Hollywood system, Levi aimed to create a new artist-run studio.
Levi purchased 75 acres in Bastrop County, outside of Austin, Texas, and began developing Wyldwood Studios. This $100 million project combines production facilities with residential and wellness spaces. Levi envisioned a community where artists thrive without middlemen. The first soundstages are set to open in 2027.
Levi acknowledged the personal sacrifices of this transition, such as leaving behind family and ideal weather. Nonetheless, he emphasized the importance of his mission over these comforts, appreciating Texas despite its seasonal extremes.
“The Fix,” directed by Guy Moshe, represents a new direction for Levi, featuring a gritty storyline about disgraced CIA operatives. Known for lighter roles in “Chuck” and “Shazam!,” Levi was attracted to the film’s darker narrative. The movie involves a rescue mission in Tehran and explores themes of redemption and moral ambiguity. Levi stars alongside Liam Neeson, who praised Levi and Moshe for their collaboration on the project.
Levi’s co-stars and crew noted his suitability for action roles and his dedication on set. Moshe and actress Elnaaz Norouzi commended Levi’s intense physicality and on-screen presence, contrasting with his previous image in family-friendly films. “The Fix” will premiere in theaters on September 11.
