President Trump’s Second Address at the Coast Guard Academy

President Donald J. Trump delivered the commencement speech at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, marking his second address at this institution. His speech combined humor with accolades for the Coast Guard graduates, alongside some unexpected deviations.

Speaking to the cadets, President Trump expressed excitement at becoming the first president to offer a second keynote address there. He stated, “I’m thrilled to become the first president to ever give a second keynote address to this storied institution. I am very proud of that honor.” Contrary to his claim, previous presidents like Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have also delivered multiple addresses at the academy.

The president touched upon the Coast Guard’s role in the Iran war. However, the cadets responded with only scattered applause, maintaining a composed demeanor during the speech.

Reflecting on his previous commencement address in 2017, President Trump maintained similar themes surrounding relentless perseverance, repeating statements about fighting against challenges. During both speeches, he urged graduates to face any danger with determination.
