Lindsay Ingemunson’s Excelling Soccer Journey

Lindsay Ingemunson, a junior midfielder for Yorkville, continuously pushes her limits on the soccer field. As a player, she adapts the game’s dynamics, making every goal count. She emphasized the importance of scoring multiple goals: “The momentum changes significantly after the first goal. There’s an energy that drives everyone to aim for more.” Her determination was visible in a recent match against West Aurora in the Class 3A Naperville Central Regional semifinal.

The Loyola recruit scored three crucial goals leading Yorkville to a 4-2 win. Freshman Jaretzy Rodriguez and Katherine Perez scored for West Aurora (11-4-2), creating a competitive setting. However, Ingemunson responded, converting penalty kicks in the 63rd and 68th minutes, avenging an earlier loss to the Blackhawks and securing Yorkville’s spot for the regional final at 6 p.m. Friday.

Freshman Hannah Sester scored the first goal for Yorkville in the 43rd minute, expressing her admiration for Ingemunson’s performance: “Lindsay is an exceptional offensive player. Whenever we need action, we look to her. She’s quick, strategic, and skilled in winning contested plays.” Senior defender Amy Guzman, involved in Sester’s goal, praised Ingemunson’s abilities: “Her speed and strength continuously break the defensive line. Additionally, she’s great fun and uplifting for the team.”

Having amassed 31 goals this season, Ingemunson recorded her fifth hat trick. As a freshman club player, she transitioned to high school soccer, scoring 17 goals and making nine assists in her debut season. Her gameplay combines size, speed, and tactical positioning, alternating between midfield and attack positions.

Lindsay reflects on her unique path, stating, “I leverage my height and strength to excel. I enjoy moving off the ball, and our team excels in playing through open spaces, allowing me to capitalize on opportunities.” Growing up as the youngest among four sisters, her resolve to prove herself took root early on. Her mother played soccer briefly in high school, while she explored various sports, eventually finding her passion in soccer.

Ingemunson recalls a defining period in fourth grade: “Playing in a boys’ team showed me different game aspects. Realizing my love for soccer emerged then.” Her determination remained evident through challenges with classmates, including two cousins, where proving her capabilities was essential.

Committing to soccer exclusively after playing basketball for two years, Ingemunson values team rapport highly: “The camaraderie with teammates is irreplaceable, influencing celebrations and personal growth. Stepping away from this bond is unimaginable.”
