The 2026 NBA draft is steadily approaching, and a notable prospect from Washington, Hannes Steinbach, is grabbing attention. Unlike the traditional powerhouses of Duke and North Carolina, which frequently produce first-round picks, a Washington player reaching this stage is noteworthy.
According to projections released by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report on May 23, Steinbach is predicted to be picked 15th by the Chicago Bulls. This selection would contribute to the Bulls’ goal of enhancing their roster with more size and physicality this summer.
“Chicago’s effort to grow bigger, stronger, and more physical this summer would be furthered with this selection,” Buckley notes. He highlights Steinbach’s impressive display at the Combine, where he showed an ideal combination of size and bulk, standing 6’10” without shoes and weighing 248 pounds, an increase from his starting weight of 220 at the beginning of the college season.
Steinbach’s rebounding prowess is a standout feature in this draft class. His relentless activity around the basket and his remarkable ability to secure rebounds on both ends of the floor are rare qualities. Such energy and determination are highly valued by NBA teams.
Offensively, Steinbach is more advanced than he is often credited for. He exhibits toughness and confidence in the paint, making him a challenging opponent near the basket.
