The iconic rock band Journey is currently on their Final Frontier Tour, scheduled to continue until the end of November. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain has recently spoken about the band’s retirement, highlighting the deep connection with their fans as a driving force behind their enduring performances.
“I think the only reason I’m still out here is the fans,” Cain shared during an interview on the Rock & Roll High School podcast. He expressed his feelings that it is the right time to conclude this chapter, describing it as a beautiful moment to bid farewell.
Cain also reflected on Journey’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. At that event, former lead singer Steve Perry accepted the award with the band but chose not to perform. Cain admitted he had expected Perry to join them on stage for a song. “I would have bet money he would’ve changed his mind and come and sang ‘Lights’ with us or something,” Cain recalled. He expected Perry to appear at the soundcheck but was left looking in vain.
The expectation of a full reunion between Perry and the band remains uncertain. Perry has previously dismissed rumors about joining Journey for the farewell tour, leaving fans potentially disappointed. Yet, Cain emphasized that Perry is always welcome on their stage, indicating an openness to future collaborations.
Journey’s legacy in rock music is significant, and their departure marks the end of an era. Despite unresolved issues with Perry, the band is moving forward after decades of touring, ready to embrace their next chapter.
