CBS News Fires Scott Pelley Amid ’60 Minutes’ Dispute

Scott Pelley, a respected journalist at CBS News and former anchor for ‘CBS Evening News,’ has been dismissed from his role. This decision came after escalating tensions between Pelley and Bari Weiss, CBS’s editor in chief.

The termination followed a contentious staff meeting where Pelley accused Weiss of undermining ’60 Minutes,’ a revered news program in the U.S. He described recent removals of key figures within the show’s leadership as detrimental to its success.

Nick Bilton, recently appointed executive producer of ’60 Minutes,’ announced Pelley’s departure via a memo sent to staff. The network has remained silent on the matter, but Bilton’s memo stated Pelley was terminated ‘for cause’ with immediate effect.

Pelley, who became a familiar face since joining CBS in 1989, expressed his continued care for ’60 Minutes’ despite his firing. He highlighted his enduring commitment to journalism, referencing his coverage of conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Ukraine.
