Swing Dance Soiree in Oak Park

Swing dance enthusiasts are invited to join the Spring Soiree Dance on June 12 at Oak Park Arms Senior Living, 408 S. Oak Park Ave., Oak Park, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will feature the Swing Set Big Band playing music from the 1950s and 1960s. Jazz Concert at La Grange Church

Alyssa Algood, a renowned jazz vocalist, will perform at First Presbyterian Church of La Grange, located at 150 S. Ashland Ave., on June 16 at 7 p.m. This outdoor concert, part of the church’s monthly community series, invites attendees to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks. Oak Park & River Forest Symphony Performance

A piano concerto premiere is scheduled for June 14 during the Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest’s performance at Concordia University chapel at 4 p.m. Mio Nakamura will debut Alexander Groesch’s “Piano Concerto No. 1.” Other pieces include Bruch’s “Violin Concerto No. 1” and Joseph Suk’s “Märchen.” A pre-concert conversation begins at 3 p.m., followed by a free reception. Elmwood Park Student Award

Dylan Ramirez of Elmwood Park earned the 2026 Illinois Community College Trustees Association Gregg Chadwick Student Success Award. Ramirez, a psychology student at Triton College, is recognized for his commitment to volunteer service. He graduated in May and plans to transfer to a four-year university to work with adolescents. Ramirez, who organized mental health discussions and events, received a $1,000 scholarship at the association’s awards banquet. He expressed pride in his accomplishments, noting that they spoke for themselves.

Juneteenth Celebration in Elmhurst

St. Peter’s United Church of Christ at 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst, will host a Juneteenth celebration on June 14 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The event, honoring the end of slavery in the U.S., features worship, a jazz combo, games, a bouncy house, lunch, and Ida’s Artisan Ice Cream. Attendees should bring a dish to share. Teen Driving Ambassadors Scholarship

Seventeen teens from Chicagoland have earned $2,500 scholarships as part of the SafeLIGHT Foundation’s Teen Ambassador Program. They promote safe driving at their schools through social media and meetings. Represented schools include Mother McAuley, Morgan Park, Lyons Township, Whitney Young, and others. Chicago Scots Festival and Highland Games

The 40th Scottish Festival and Highland Games occur June 12 and 13 at DuPage Event Center & Fairgrounds, Wheaton. The event features Highland dancing, a bagpiping championship, caber toss, Scottish petting zoo, a British car show, and a marketplace. A World Cup watch party for Scotland vs. Haiti is set for June 13. All proceeds aid Caledonia Senior Living. Children under 12 and parking are free.
