Mike D, formerly of the Beastie Boys, is set to release his debut solo album “Thank You” under the project name Mike D 5D on August 28. This album is anticipated to be the first full-length release from a Beastie Boys member since 2011’s “Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.” Fans have been eagerly waiting for this new music.
A press statement provided to Newsweek describes “Thank You” as featuring “dozen servings of sonically inventive post-electronic grooves and hypnotic hooks.” Mike D’s distinctive voice will guide listeners through a soundscape that challenges traditional categorization.
Ahead of the album release, Mike D has shared a visualizer for “True Colors,” one of the tracks from the album. This visualizer is available for streaming.
The creation of “Thank You” involved what are described as “experimental recording sessions” at Mike D’s home studio. Initially, these sessions featured his sons, Skyler and Davis, but soon expanded to include additional contributors. The album’s artwork is created by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan.
Mike D expressed his enjoyment in collaborating with friends and family on this project. He stated, “It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and have grown to appreciate in our collaboration.” He hopes that listeners find the music fun and not overly serious, especially in today’s challenging world.
Mike D’s efforts help keep the legacy of the Beastie Boys alive, with family support playing an integral role.
